Feit Electric ESL18TM, Excellent bulb

Excellent bulb

I bought a house that was built in the ’80s and the original owner went crazy with recessed cans in the house. They are everywhere. Over 80 can lights and my house is not that big.

Up to this point I have been using 75watt halogen par 30 and par 38 floods in the cans. Halogen bulbs are not that cheap and put out a ton of heat.

I saw these compact bulbs and thought I would give them a try. My biggest worry was if the quality of the light would be good compared to the halogens. After installing them in some of my cans, I am very pleased with the soft whiteness of them. There really is no difference between them and the halogens.

Additionally they fit well in the cans (i.e. they don’t stick out). Of course if you look up into the cans, the “look” is different as the halogen bulbs will fill the whole can, but given the power savings in using these and the extra life, personally I could care less as how often are you staring up into a can light at 75watts? If you are doing this often, perhaps you should stop, as it can’t be good for your eyes!

Since I just installed them a week ago, I cannot tell you if they really will last 7 years. At some point in the future, when they begin to fail, I will edit this review and let you know how long they lasted for me.

Color temperature is good, instant on
I was about 4 different compact fluorescent bulbs, trying to find one that looks like a color temperature of tungsten reasonably. This is the best yet! The light output seems a little lower than others I tried, and I got it for just over a month now, I can not say if it will last as long as they claim it. But so far everything is going well.
